A 29-year-old teacher has been stabbed and robbed of K47,000 in cash in Mazabuka, Southern Province, after offering a lift to three people.
The incident happened on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at around 19:00 hours along the road leading to the Zambia Institute of Animal Husbandry.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo identified the victim as Ian Mwanza, a teacher at Elevation Tuition Centre.
According to Mr Namalongo, Mwanza was driving towards the institute when he was approached by three people — two males and a female — who requested a lift.
After driving for a short distance, one of the male passengers allegedly attacked the teacher by stabbing him on the forehead with a screwdriver.
The attack reportedly forced Mwanza to stop the vehicle.
Police said the female passenger then allegedly took Mwanza’s bag, which contained K47,000 in cash, before all three suspects fled from the scene.
The victim was left injured following the attack, while the suspects escaped with the cash.
Police have since opened a docket and launched investigations into the matter.
The suspects remain at large, and officers are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend the three individuals believed to be involved in the robbery.
The incident has raised concerns over the risks motorists can face when offering lifts to strangers, particularly at night.
Police are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
