Government has handed over agricultural equipment and livestock procured from recoveries from Nkeyema Food Security Pack (FSP) beneficiaries, in Western Province.

The equipment and livestock worth K670,000 include, 7 maize shellers, 7 combined rice mills, 7 planters, 1 diesel tiler, 3 modernized ox-drawn planters, and ripper for conservation farming.

134 pigs, 99 goats and 1000, chickens were also procured under the same initiative.

Western Province Minister, Mr Kapelwa Mbangweta, who graced the handover ceremony, appreciated the impact the programme being implemented by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services is having on communities.

He said the development is significant in the promotion of food security and community sustainability, in line with government’s objective of empowering its citizens with life changing opportunities.

And speaking at the same event, Director for Community Development, Mrs Patricia Muyamwa, encouraged the beneficiaries to commit to paying back so that more life changing opportunities are created for them.

She emphazised that the money which they pay as recoveries is theirs, and meant to be used to improve lives and create more opportunities apart from the empowerment they get from government through the Ministry.

Mrs Muyamwa said the pay backs have facilitated for the procurement of life changing agricultural equipments, and should therefore be implemented in other parts of the country in order to have rounded development.
