One person has died after being hit by a motorbike in Chipata District along Kafula road near Mbanyane bus station.
The incident happened on Sunday April 28th 2024 around 18:30 hours.
Both the motorbike rider Charles Nyirenda aged 21 of Nabvutika Township and one pillion on board Bupe Mbewe aged 23 sustained injuries and are admitted in Chipata Central Hospital.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii told Breeze FM News that due excessive speed, the rider lost control of the motorbike and in the process, he hit the pedestrian Davison Phiri aged 47.
He says due to the impact, the pedestrian who sustained head injuries died in Chipata Central Hospital.
In another matter, police in Chipata are investigating a suspected murder case which occurred on unknown dates.
Mr. Liywalii says police picked up a body of a male person believed to be between 18 and 23 years on Sunday April 28th 2024 around 16 hours.
He says the body was found floating in shallow water under Mtoya bridge in Gonda area of Chief Kapatamoyo’s area.
Mr. Liywalii explained that the victim is suspected to have been murdered by unknown persons as he had bruises on the face and the head.
No arrest has been made.
