Police in Chipata have launched a search for an unknown female hairdresser who allegedly stole a 3-moths-old child.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii says Police on March 28th, 2024 received a report of child stealing from Esnart Ngoma aged 24 of DK compound.

Mr. Liywalii says the unknown hairdresser is believed to have stolen the baby after plaiting the victim’s mother’s hair at her house.

Brief facts are that whilst plaiting the hair and after breastfeeding her baby who was crying, Esnart gave the baby to the suspect to hold as her 7-year-old sister-in-law wasn’t home.

After finishing plaiting the hair, her sister-in-law arrived and the suspect who still had the baby on her back, asked Esnart if she could go with her sister-in-law at the booth to withdraw the money and never returned.

The Victim’s mother who followed after 10 minutes only met her sister-in-law who reported that the suspect who left her at the motorbike rank went into the direction of Chipata Day Secondary School.
