Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe this morning led by example, braving the cold to conquer the 21km Half Marathon at the 2026 NAPSA Pensioners Marathon.

Thousands of Zambians turned out for the annual event, but it was the PS’s step-up from the 10km to the half marathon that sent a clear message: leadership means action.

“Having completed the 10km race in recent marathons, we decided to take it a step further by tackling the 21km Half Marathon,” Chileshe said after crossing the finish line.

Chileshe used the platform to declare war on non-communicable diseases, saying the battle will be won one healthy choice at a time.

“The fight against non-communicable diseases begins with each one of us making healthy lifestyle choices. Regular physical activity is one of the simplest and most effective weapons we have to promote good health and well-being,” he said.

He praised the massive turnout despite the biting morning cold, calling it proof that Zambians are ready to take charge of their health.

“It was inspiring to see so many Zambians brave the cold morning in support of this important cause. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger and disease-free Zambia,” Chileshe declared.

The NAPSA Pensioners Marathon continues to grow as a national movement promoting fitness, healthy aging, and the prevention of lifestyle diseases.
