ROBBERS SHOOT 2 MOMO AGENTS

Two mobile money agents in Luanshya were on Thursday night shot and wounded by three armed criminals who fled the scene after stealing unspecified amounts of money.

The incident, which occurred around 20:00 hours on Datura Avenue, adjacent to Roan Shopping Mall, sent shockwaves in the community.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the two victims have been identified as Peter Daka, 24, and Agness Bwalya, 35, who were shot on the left feet.

“We recorded a case of aggravated robbery in Luanshya which was reported at Central Police Station,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said the assailants, who were three and armed with a suspected pistol, swiftly fled the scene in a Toyota Ipsum vehicle after firing five gunshots.

“The victims were shot at as they were approaching their motor vehicle. An undisclosed amount of money has been robbed from the victims who deal in electronic money transactions,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said both Daka and Bwalya are admitted to Roan Antelope General Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

He said a docket of the heinous crime has been opened while his officers have been mobilised on the ground to apprehend the perpetrators.
