Serenje’s Lushibashi Ward Councilor Leonard Kanchepa has appealed to former diplomat to India, Bangwe Naviley Bangwe, to complete the house he began constructing seven years ago for a health worker at Nakalengule in Chief Mailo’s area.
Speaking after the donation of 200 chitenge materials at Nakalengule, Chibuye Saili and Safuke Yamba, Kanchepa said the unfinished house is critical because the health facility currently has only one house for staff accommodation.
He explained that the completion of the structure would allow the station to host more than one health worker, thereby improving service delivery in the community.
Kanchepa also praised Bangwe’s past contributions to Serenje, highlighting the construction of a 1×3 classroom block at Kalela in Chief Mailo’s area, a 1×2 classroom block at Moyenda in Chief Chibale’s area, a classroom in Chief Chisomo’s area, a borehole at Chibale School, and an examination strong room at Kalunga School in Kabanda Ward under Chieftainess Serenje.
In response, Bangwe acknowledged the importance of completing the Nakalengule house but admitted he has faced financial challenges since his recall from diplomatic service.
He described the recall as a normal occurrence and expressed hope that “God will provide a way” to finish the project, especially as Nakalengule holds personal significance for him, being the resting place of his grandfather and mother.
