Junia Mulenga, who recently died from the crisis of sickle-cell anaemia was a determined sicklecell anaemia advocate.

Junia ran a social-media page; ‘AJ’s journey’ and encouraged others living with the debilitating disease to fight on.

Sickle-cell is a group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down.

With sickle cell disease, an inherited group of disorders, red blood cells contort into a sickle shape. The cells die early, leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells (sickle cell anaemia) and can block blood flow causing pain (sickle cell crisis).

In this article, Dr.Musonda Mwilwa another sicklecell champion recognized Junia and gave the symbolic 2022 Award.

She has had it rough this year, multiple hospital visits and she has shared it all and stayed strong.
