2026 Lusaka mayoral candidate and lawyer Simon Mulenga Mwila has ruled out petitioning the outcome of the mayoral election, despite saying his own projection had placed his vote tally higher than the officially declared results.

Mwila made the remarks when he featured on Phoenix FM’s Breakfast Show with Chimweka and Hope Tha Duchess this morning, where he also clarified comments he previously made about losing personal possessions during his campaign.
The independent candidate explained that his decision to speak about the items he lost during the campaign was intended to provide an honest account of some of the challenges that can arise during a political race.

Mwila said the experience was part of giving the public a truthful picture of what candidates can sometimes encounter while campaigning.
Despite noting a difference between his own vote projection and the figures that were eventually declared, Mwila said he has no intention of challenging the Lusaka mayoral election outcome through a petition.
His decision means he intends to accept the declared result rather than pursue a legal challenge over the difference between his projected votes and the official tally.
Mwila’s comments come as candidates and political stakeholders continue to reflect on the 2026 elections and the campaign experiences that shaped the race for Lusaka’s top local government position.
