Border to Border writes;
After a critical review of Yo Maps Yo new song dubbed Somone, I withdraw my earlier statement that this is a good song.

Firstly, the song sits on a free “stolen” afrobeat instrumental called Rain produced by and for Nigerian artists Rema, Oxlade and Tems. This is amateurish and lack of creativity for an established artist like Yo Maps who claims to be international.

Secondly, the song has certian stereotypes; it denotes a message that white people are special beings with a certian status who live better lives and whom black people should envy and aspire to be and live with as neighbours – I think our artists need some level of education and exposure to write well-informed songs in this millennial age.

And offcourse, love has got nothing to do with material things. So if you have built a house or bought a car then your ex must be made to regret that the relationship didn’t work – the lyrical content is pathetic.

Lastly, while I commend the quality production of the video by Director Lo, Yo Maps wears the same ‘white’ sun glasses in all his videos. He is always looking directly in the camera like Nigerian artist Asake. Yo Maps has the same or similar dance moves in all his musical videos – there is need to improve on choreography. We can learn from Tanzanian musicians like Daimond Platinumz and others.

Otherwise, Yo Maps must be commended for always trying again.
