A 29-year-old man of Mazabuka’s Hill Side Compound who was arrested for stealing a Motorbike has escaped from a moving vehicle which was being driven by an Officer from Macha Police Post.
The incident occurred on 13th February, 2024 around 15:30 hours at Muyobe Bridge along Macha Road, with the suspect identified as Iran Muleya.
Facts are that Mumba Bernard, the Criminal Investigative Officer-CIO at Macha Police Post got the suspect from Choma Police Station to be led to Macha Area for scene reconstruction.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, notes that the suspect had been hand cuffed to the rim of the spare wheel behind the Police vehicle alone.
Daka says upon passing through Muyobe Bridge, the suspect was discovered missing and the hand cuffs were not there, noting that the open Van vehicle used was not suitable for transporting offenders.
He also speculates that the cuffs that were used could have been faulty, with Police carrying out investigations to establish the facts correctly.
