THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) has condemned the torturing of a suspect to death by Officers at Mkushi Police Station in Central Province.
Commission Spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya tells Byta FM News that the punishing to death of Allan Sikalango is a grave crime and a violation of Human Rights.
He has demanded that the perpetrators face the law, adding that compensation has to be rendered to the family of the deceased, pledging the Commission’s commitment to see this achieved.

Muleya states that the death of Sikalango is just one of several such heinous cases of torture in the country, hence the need for enactment of a law that will criminalize torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatments.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased, who was a resident of Itala Compound in Mkushi, was picked up by Police Officers with three others for an alleged crime.
He was reportedly subjected to severe beatings during interrogations, leading to his death.
