The University of Lusaka (UNILUS) has challenged its latest graduates to use their qualifications to solve societal problems and drive innovation, with Chancellor Dr. Caleb Fundanga telling them that graduation “is not just about attaining a piece of paper.”

Addressing graduands at UNILUS’ 19th graduation ceremony, Dr. Fundanga said the real measure of education is impact.

“Graduation is not just about attaining a piece of paper at whatever level, but it is about making an impact and contributing to the well-being in society,” he said.

He urged the new graduates to apply their knowledge to change society and develop strategies to remain relevant as professionals.

“With technology at its highest, be innovative and develop strategies that would enable you remain relevant as professionals in your various industries,” Dr. Fundanga said.

Noting that Zambia and the world are facing numerous challenges, the Chancellor said those problems present opportunities for academic excellence.

He called on the outgoing achievers to embrace the ceremony’s theme: “Educating for impact, performance and purpose.”

“Go and make a difference,” Dr. Fundanga told the graduands.

Chief Nyampande who graced the ceremony echoed Dr Fundanga’s encouragements, urging the graduands to be as impactful as possible in their course of duty.

Meanwhile, Prof.Mlenga Jere – Deputy vice chancellor – student affairs described the event as a moment to step forward, not only with an academic qualification, but purpose.

“Impact is not a destination, but a calling to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the society,” he added.

The University of Lusaka is one of Zambia’s largest private universities, offering programmes in business, law, education, and health sciences. Dr. Caleb Fundanga, former Bank of Zambia Governor, has served as UNILUS Chancellor since 2018.

The 19th graduation ceremony saw hundreds of students conferred with certificates, diplomas, and degrees across various faculties.
