(ZANIS) A prominent businessman has been shot dead by unknown people at his business premise, in Mbala district, Northern Province.

KELEYARD SIMPEMBA, aged 58, the owner of Mwandwizi Lodge, died on the spot after he was shot in the head.

Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, LUCKY MUNKONDYA has confirmed the incident, which happened on Tuesday, May 7, around 19.50 hours.

Ms. MUNKONDYA says Mr. SIMPEMBA was shot while in his car shortly after parking.

The Police Commanding Officer has explained that the incident was reported to the police by the deceased’s son, CHRISTOPHER SIMPEMBA.

Ms. MUNKONDYA added that police found the body of the deceased lying in the pool of blood facing down, while holding car keys.

The suspected killers, who escaped thereafter, did not get anything from the car after the incident.
