Zambia’s Envoy to Egypt Urges GBVC To Produce Results

Zambia’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency, Major General Topply Mulambo Lubaya (Rtd) Sunday afternoon, 14 April, 2024 paid a visit to the Green Bufffaloes Men’s Volleyball ( GBVC) team at Al Ahly Club.

Maj Gen Lubaya congratulated GBVC for winning the 2023 Zone 6 Senior Indoor Club Championship, which earned them a place at the 45th African Men’s Volleyball Championship in Egypt.

He urged the players to remain focused, embrace teamwork and utilise their individual skills and talents to put up a good fight for mother Zambia and Zambia Army at large whenever they are called on the court.

“As the President says, Zambia is now in the Champion League. Learn from the Copper Queens, who first believed in themselves, gave their level best on the pitch and in the end qualified to the Olympics against all odds. You too can make it if you believe in yourselves,” he said.

Maj Gen Lubaya informed the velloeyballers that government is in full support of the team, hence availing resources for the team to participate in the championship.

“Having come from military circles, I am very happy and proud to receive you in Egypt, and I want to assure you of our support,” Maj Gen Lubaya said.

And Zambia Army Director General, Sports, Commerce and Community Services branch, Brigadier General Daniel Tembo expressed gratitude to the Zambian Embassy in Egypt for the unwavering support of the team.

Brig Gen Tembo added that having won Zone 6 last year, the team endeavours to get a place at the World Volleyball Club Championship.

“We are aware that volleyball is very competitive in North Africa and of very high standards, but we are ready for the task ahead. The morale is high, the boys are ready and expected to play some good volleyball,” Brig Gen Tembo said.

Maj Gen Lubaya was in the company of Counsellor Tourism,Ms Jessy Simukoko, Deffence Attaché, Brig Gen Morris Njelekwa, First Secretary Consulor, Mr Davin Muyangwa, First Secretary Political and Administration,Ms Verocia Kaimba Chiluba, Second Secretary Trade and Economic,Mr Joseph Kazhila, First Secretary Education Ms Aminah Lenganji Banda and Third Secretary (PA) Ms Anayawa Mabuku.

Green Buffaloes are currently in Egypt taking part in the African Volleyball Club Championship.

The Army sponsored side qualified to the Championship through the SADC Zone VI games which they won last year in December in Maseru, Lesotho.

Buffaloes finished 8th in last year’s continental showpiece and will open their account tomorrow, 16 April, 2024 when they take Kenya’s Ports Authority at 14 hours.
