The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has donated cleaning materials, toiletries, sanitary materials and fruits valued at K10,000 to Chipata Level 1 Hospital in Lusaka.

The donation was made today following a cleaning exercise conducted by the Agency at the hospital as part of activities to commemorate Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary under the theme “Zambia@62: Our Journey, Our Growth and Our Future.”

ZCSA Executive Director Gerald Chizinga said the exercise demonstrates the Agency’s commitment to public health and safety.

Chizinga urged citizens to become ambassadors for the production and consumption of safe products as they celebrate Independence.

“Unsafe products pose serious threats to public safety and health, hence every citizen must be vigilant and consume safe products from trusted sources,” he said.

He said protection of citizens’ health and safety is a collective effort requiring regulators, state institutions, manufacturers, importers, suppliers and consumers.

He urged citizens to avoid expired products and illicit alcoholic beverages and to report such products to the Agency.

“Let us be vigilant consumers, advocating for safety in every product, and welcoming initiatives that promote public health and safety in our communities. Together, we can ensure that unsafe goods have no place in our trading places and safeguard our health,” Chizinga said.

He said product safety and good health are essential pillars of national development and key to supporting the Grow Zambia Agenda, adding that the Agency is committed to strengthening inspection and testing of products.

And Chipata Level 1 Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Mataa Moses Mataa thanked ZCSA, saying the donation is timely and will support patient recovery.

ZCSA regulates 102 imported and locally manufactured products under compulsory standards covering food, beverages, chemicals, electrical appliances, fertilizer, fuel, cement, used motor vehicles and used textiles.
