The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) has officially announced the retirement of veteran broadcasters Innocent Kalaluka and Franklin Tembo Jnr, bringing to an end more than three decades of service at the national broadcaster.
According to a statement issued by ZNBC Head of Corporate Affairs Yvette Chanda, the two television personalities officially retired effective 31 August 2026.
ZNBC said both Kalaluka and Tembo Jnr dedicated over 30 years to the corporation, becoming familiar faces on television screens across Zambia and contributing significantly to the development of the country’s broadcasting and media landscape.

The national broadcaster has also clarified that the retirements were voluntary and part of the normal administrative process, dismissing any suggestion that there was anything unusual or sinister surrounding their departure.
ZNBC said both broadcasters individually submitted applications for early retirement in 2025, which were subsequently considered and approved by management in accordance with the corporation’s established procedures.
The corporation explained that its conditions of service, in line with statutory provisions, allow employees to opt for voluntary early retirement after reaching the age of 55, while the standard retirement age is 60.
In the case of Kalaluka and Tembo Jnr, ZNBC said management formally approved their applications following the required administrative timelines, resulting in their official exit at the end of August.
The two broadcasters leave behind more than 30 years of professional experience at one of Zambia’s most prominent media institutions.
ZNBC has praised both men for their professional dedication, selfless service and contribution to the development of younger broadcasters through mentorship.
“Management and Staff of ZNBC extend their deepest gratitude” to Kalaluka and Tembo Jnr for their decades of service, the corporation said.
The national broadcaster has wished the two veteran television personalities well as they begin the next chapter of their lives following their retirement.
Their departure marks the end of a significant era for two broadcasters who spent decades connecting Zambian audiences with television programming and becoming recognised figures in the country’s broadcasting industry.
