The Zambia Police Service has dismissed reports circulating on social media linking the transfer of Chawama Police Station Officer-in-Charge Francis Mulundu to the recent violent incidents in Chawama Compound.
In a statement issued on June 7, 2026, Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi described the reports as false and misleading, clarifying that the transfer forms part of routine personnel rotations within the service.
According to the statement, social media posts have also been circulating statements allegedly attributed to Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba regarding the transfer and recent events in Chawama. However, the Zambia Police Service says the Inspector General has not granted any interview to any media house or individual on the matter.
“The Inspector General of Police has not issued any statement concerning the transfer of Mr. Mulundu or the recent incidents in Chawama. Any comments attributed to him are false and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The police service explained that transfers and postings are normal administrative procedures governed by public service regulations and Zambia Police Service Standing Orders. The service emphasized that such transfers should not be interpreted as disciplinary measures.
Police further stated that the transfer of Mr. Mulundu, along with other senior officers from various police stations within Lusaka Division, had already been planned before the recent unrest in Chawama Compound.
The Zambia Police Service has urged members of the public to verify information through official communication channels and avoid sharing unverified reports on social media.
Mr. Chilabi reiterated the service’s commitment to professionalism, impartiality, and maintaining law and order across the country.
The clarification comes amid increased public interest surrounding security developments in Chawama and highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media platforms.
