Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi says Command will do everything possible to motivate players of various sports disciplines within the Army, and ultimately contribute to the growth of sport in the country.

Yesterday, the Commander, Zambia Army promoted Copper Queens Captain, Banda Barbara to the rank of Staff Sergeant and some Green Buffaloes players following their 3-2 aggregate win over Morocco.

Speaking during the Promotion Ceremony in Lusaka today, Lt Gen Alibuzwi praised the players for their fighting spirit, despite having carried a 2-1 deficit to Morocco in the first leg.

The Commander, Zambia Army said players such as Staff Sergeant Mupopo Kabange and recruits, Kundananji Racheal, Ngambo Musole, Siamfuko Esther and Banda Esther, who have not been promoted, will be awarded a tune of K10,000 each, while those promoted will receive a tune of K5,000 each.

Those that have been promoted include Sergeants, Banda Barbra, Nachula Racheal and Mulenga Anita to the rank of Staff Sergeant, as well as Corporal Lungu Ireen to the rank of Sergeant.

Others who have been promoted are Lance Corporals; Tembo Martha and Mweemba Lushomo.

The Commander clarified that recruits Ngambo Musole, among others could not be promoted as they were just recently enlisted, until such a time when they will attain their military basic training but were given a winning bonus of K10,000 each.

“The players were representing the country as well as Zambia Army in the women’s national football team that was able to overcome all odds and qualify to the Olympics. It was a moment of joy when we qualified because in most people all hope was lost but some of us who believe in miracles we knew and remained focused that we were going to turn round tables and it so happened,” Lt Gen Alibuzwi said.

Speaking shortly after the Ceremony, Staff Sergeant Banda said the team never stopped believing to pull off a comeback despite all odds being against them.

Ssgt Banda further thanked the Commander Zambia Army for the promotion and charged that the team will now shift focus to the preparation of the Olympics which will commence in July, 2024 in Paris.

Meanwhile, Goalkeeper, Musole, has also described her return to the national team a hard fought comeback and said she will do everything possible to make the country proud.

Zambia Army
