The Zambia Institute of Architects (ZIA) says local authorities in the country are doing the Zambian people a disservice.

And the institution has bemoaned poor quality of works being funded under Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Architect president Fidelis Kabwiri says some projects done under increased CDF fall short of basic architectural standards.

“And they cannot stand the taste of time, meaning that we are not getting value for the colossal sums of money being spent on them,” Kabwiri said.

Kabwiri however, stated that increasing CDF by the current government was a step in the right direction.

He has since urged cabinet through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to ensure that officers mandated to review designs under CDF projects, have an understanding of the established design principles and norms in the field of architecture for them to show concern and duty of the care for the communities where the projects are intended to be built for sustainability.

Kabwiri said this at a media briefing, Wednesday afternoon.
