State House Chief Communication Strategist Whitney Mulobela says Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary should compel every citizen to reflect on their contribution to the nation’s economic emancipation.

Zambia will tomorrow, October 24th, commemorate 62 years of independence under the theme “Zambia@62: Our Journey, Our Growth, Our Future”.

Meanwhile, Mulobela said the theme must be a moment of deep national reflection.

“On the eve of Zambia’s 62nd independence anniversary, commemorated under the theme ‘Zambia@62: Our Journey, Our Growth, Our Future’, this must be a moment of reflection for our country — and, above all, of reflection on what each of us is contributing to it,” Mulobela said.

The communications expert noted that while Zambia’s forefathers fought for and won political independence, the current generation is faced with a different struggle.

“Our forefathers fought for and won our political independence, the very freedom we celebrate. The leaders of our generation are now waging the next struggle: economic emancipation,” he said.

Mulobela said President Hakainde Hichilema is spearheading the Grow Zambia Agenda to address this struggle.

“President Hakainde Hichilema is spearheading the Grow Zambia Agenda to create jobs, open up business opportunities and grow treasury revenue to fund our social sectors,” he stated.

He invoked the words of former United States President John F. Kennedy to challenge Zambians to play their part.

“I am reminded of John F. Kennedy’s words: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.’ Each of us has a role to play, especially in driving the Grow Zambia Agenda. In our own way, we can and we must contribute to this vision,” Mulobela said.

The veteran journalist has since posed a challenge to all citizens: “So, what will be your contribution to the economic emancipation of our great nation?”
