United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) President and UPND Alliance partner Charles Chanda says he is not in the alliance for a job and can afford to pay Members of Parliament from his own pocket.
Speaking on Crown TV, Mr. Chanda said those attacking him on social media for supporting President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration do not understand his personal wealth and his intention to help build a better Zambia.
Mr. Chanda, who has in recent weeks been spotted in Kasempa selling off some of his personal luxury cars to buy heavy duty machinery for grading community roads, said his support for the President is about national development and not personal gain.

“I am not a job seeker. I am different from those looking for jobs,” he said. “I can pay the MPs that are there myself.”
The UPPZ leader said his family is financially stable and does not need government money.
“I have everything. My children, I pay them salaries. Some of the salaries I give my children are more than what directors in government get. I have one child in Grade 12, one in university right now, and I am thinking of how I can get them into real estate. You are not dealing with someone who is looking for a job,” he said.
Mr. Chanda said he has seen what people write on social media accusing him of seeking political security and favours from President Hichilema.
“For me, a minister’s salary, I don’t think it can even last me two minutes. I finish it. I have seen what people write on social media. I read social media. But I am not desperate for anything. If the President thought, ‘we are not giving him anything to do,’ I would be happier than everyone else,” he said.
He explained that his decision to invest his own resources in Kasempa, including grading roads and community works, is part of his spirit of giving back.
Mr. Chanda reaffirmed his alliance’s commitment to President Hichilema and the UPND, saying he wants the President to succeed.
“I want the President to succeed. We went to help him to have a better country. We are going to do everything to support him. That is why we have already started working. If it is road grading in Kasempa, we are doing it with our own machines,” he said.
He added that his sacrifice should not be mistaken for buying political favours.
“There is nothing like you are essentially buying political security at the table. No. For me, I mean, I will be very honest with you. I just want this country to be better.”
