Patriotic Front (PF) Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile has advised the government not to use the former ruling party as a benchmark for the decisions it makes.

Featuring on the “Let the People Talk” program on Radio Phoenix Friday morning, Mundubile said it would be wrong for the New Dawn administration to do exactly what the PF did.

He stated that the fact that the former ruling party did certain things does not mean the current government should do the same.

“Maybe that is the same reason the Zambian people voted us out and brought them (UPND) in. Two wrongs do not make a right”.
He observed that the ruling party has two years left to deliver its campaign promises, among them the guarantee of freedom of assembly.

His comments were prompted by a resurfaced audio and video clip of former president Edgar Lungu saying there was a time and season for political campaigns and mass gatherings. Lungu was referring to the consistent denial then of meeting opportunities to the UPND in opposition by the police.

Now the tables have turned with the police under the UPND government seemingly employing the same tactics, prompting the PF and other political parties to allege shrinkage of the country’s democratic space.
