Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu says Zambia will not develop unless voters elect new leaders in the general elections scheduled for 13th August 2026.
In a Facebook post, Njobvu accused the current political leadership of lacking morality and failing to live up to the promises made while in opposition.
He recalled that the UPND had, while in opposition, accused the PF of “selling air” and stealing public money.
“UPND told us that PF was ‘selling air’ and stealing money,” Njobvu said. “Now ba UPND are getting mealie meal from ZNS and not paying. No morality left in our politicians.”
The outspoken opposition leader did not provide further details on the ZNS mealie meal matter, but said the allegation was an example of why he believes the country needs a change in leadership.
According to Njobvu, the conduct he described shows that the problems Zambians complained about under the previous government have not been resolved.
“This country will not develop if we don’t get new leaders after 13th August 2026,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Njobvu said the Democratic Union leadership earlier held an information exchange meeting with the EU Observer Mission.
“We discussed the political environment and electoral issues affecting this year’s elections. We appealed for increased observer presence in high-risk provinces and rural areas to help protect the vote and ensure credibility,” Njobvu disclosed.
He added that the DU value the EU’s commitment to transparency, democracy, and credible elections in Zambia.
