TEACHERS Day celebrations has ended in tragedy after a 29-year-old teacher of Kitwe drowned while swimming with other teachers.

Pathious Mulenga is believed to have been in company of 18 other teachers at Sunset Pleasure Resort, Zamtan area off Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage way when he met his fate.

Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident occurred yesterday between 15:30 hours and 16:40 hours.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on October 05th around 09.00 hours, the teacher reported the incident was in the company of other 18 teachers left their school located in Twatasha Township for the Teacher’s Day celebration at Sunset Pleasure Resort, Zamtan area off Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage way,” he said.

Mr Mweemba explained that in the course of their celebration around 15:30 hours, they all joined each other for a swim in the pool around the same resort.

He said unfortunately, the victim was only noticed to be at the bottom of the pool and unable to come out.

“Fellow teachers pulled him out and tried to do some First Aid on him. As the condition was not improving, they immediately rushed him to Wusakile Mine Hospital where unfortunately was pronounced dead. Later, a report was made to the Police at 17:50 hours,” he said.
