Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, has urged manufacturers to use platforms such as the Zambia Association of Manufacturers – ZAM to unbundle their challenges.

Mr. Mulenga has since commended ZAM for promoting integration of players in the manufacturing sector.

The Cabinet Minister said this when he officiated at an event where ZAM elected new Leadership at its 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM), under the theme “Boosting Sustainable Growth Through Value Addition and Productivity Enhancement.”

Mr. Mulenga further commended ZAM for its democratic election process.

The Minister commended ZAM for working with a local Legal Firm, May and Company, in amending the Association’s Constitution and with Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) for ensuring transparency in the election.

“This goes to show that ZAM is serious about strengthening its governance systems while setting an example to other similar institutions,” he said.

Mr. Mulenga is happy to note that USAID Africa Trade and Investment, Trade Boost Project were the independent observers of the elections as they are committed to helping Associations like ZAM, achieve long term objectives.

He noted that ZAM Board which used to have over 14 members has seen the new Constitution only allowing for 10 or 11 as maximum.

During the AGM, elections were conducted by Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z), and three (3) Trustees were successfully ratified.

The newly elected ZAM Board for 2023-2025 comprises of President Ashu Sagar of Carribbean Beverages, Vice President North Ruben Selvapandian of Strongpak, Vice President South Froncen Haloba of CocaCola Beverages Zambia, Advisory Board Member Kim Otteby of Umoyo Natural Health, Advisory Board Member Oswald Magwenzi of Zambia Sugar, Advisory Board Member Ashish Sachdeva of Afritank as well as Advisory Board Member Mohammed Umar of Pharmanova.

Others are Trustee Chipego Zulu Chileshe of British American Tobacco, Trustee Mercy Chewetu Mukupa of Queen of Chitenge and Trustee Richard Franklin of ZamLeather.

And ZAM President Ashu Sagar said the newly elected Board is committed to working with all stakeholders to promote sustainable growth in the manufacturing sector.
